Almost better than sex

Home | About

This project examines how religious images and symbols take root on a personal level and in Christian cultures in general.

Turning to historical facts, one cannot fail to mention that the church often claimed to regulate sexual relations in society, to establish certain rules, and generally recognized the body as something sinful.

Today, despite the fact that the topic of sex is no longer a forbidden, and even more so, many people learn about their physicality through sex, it is still often stigmatized, and this is the point where there is an intersection with religion, and where its roots can be explored.

In these works, I use clay as a material that itself is a symbol of the corporeal, as well as a very clear material object that is physically present and fills space with its volume.

At the same time, the shape of the bodies of the sculptures also carries religious symbolism, such as St. Andrew's cross, crucifix, prayer pose. The photo is part of the sculpture and the image of the spiritual, religious, which is present in the body.

(For me, these images are still such that they still evoke a certain awe and respect.)

"Almost Better Than Sex" aims to stimulate discussion of complex aspects of beliefs and sexuality by expressing them through the language of art. The project is aimed at understanding the interaction of these spheres and deepening knowledge about oneself and those cultural codes that still exist in society.
